Australia’s Bushfires — the story of Rae

A few years ago, a friend of mine lost her house and everything she owned to a fire that started unexpectedly a few days after she moved into her new house. She’d planned to start a wildlife rescue and had to start from scratch. I helped to raise money for her back then to get her back on her feet.

Despite the setback, she worked hard to build up her beloved wildlife rescue, Wild2Free Inc. — Kangaroo Sanctuary, and her care and love for our wildlife has been incredible to see over the past few years.

They say lightning never strikes twice, but unbelievably, the same thing has happened again to Rae in the latest bushfires. She’d spent months preparing her the property for fire, knowing a bad fire season was coming, but despite these preparations, the wind change brought the fire fast and close.

She’s endured so much in the last few days — waiting in the water for rescue, being picked up by her neighbour & floating in Bateman’s Bay for hours seeking somewhere safe to land, before ending up in a shopping centre with her cat and the clothes on her back. Her house is gone.

I know there are plenty of people that need help, and plenty of pages asking for donations, and it’s hard to know where to start — but I would ask that if you are looking for somewhere to send some of your donations, that you consider Rae.

She is one of the most determined, generous and selfless people I know and although this might knock some people down, it’s only going to spur her own to work harder for our Australian wildlife.

We’ve heard since the fires that some of her Roos are alive so she’s back on the property to assess them and help.

You can follow their progress on the Facebook page and donate as well. [Wild2Free Donations](https://www.gofundme.com/f/rae039s-campaign-for-wild-2-free-inc)
